Yuck!
That's the one word that perfectly sums up the process of cleaning this car.
By the look of things, this car hasn't been properly cleaned since it was assembled in 1987! There's a chunky layer of grime on everything.
You can clearly see the brown tinting on the seat in the pictures above - that's not a trick of the light, it's really supposed to be grey!
So, after figuring out where to begin, I started by taking out the driver's seat and giving it a good scrub. But even after a good scrub it was still coated in blotchy brown marks so I pulled the ace out of my sleeve... and blasted it with the hose!
I then removed the back seat and performed the same hose-ectomy by propping it up against the house, dousing it in cleaning solution, then harpooning it with a jet of water until no more brown water came out. It was pretty satisfying getting the grey to come back again.
Since then, I've been busy removing the other seat, scrubbing & hosing it to death as well so that I could remove the carpet. I've already found $1.35 in coins under the seats and carpet. At this rate, I'll have enough for a gearbox by 2017! :)
The carpet came out quite easily so I lay it out on the driveway and gave it the scrub & aqua-harpoon (let's call it aquapoon) treatment until all the water coming out of that carpet was clear and fresh. It took a good 25 minutes of blasting it but I got it looking pretty good for a slice of carpet that's 20 years old!
